Fishing guides can help to to make your deep sea experience both fun and safe. Fishing guides know where the fish are as well as what they tend to bite on. Fishing charters, along with providing advice and insight, supply the gear, and sometimes a meal for those brave enough to spend an entire day out on the water. Prince Edward Island is home to a number of charter operations, the premiere of which is Scott Bruce Tuna Charters. This outfit is headed by experienced fishing guide, Scott Bruce.
Raised on Prince Edward Island, Scott is a 3rd generation fisherman who has spent most of his life on the water. He grew up fishing lobster and tuna with his father at every opportunity. Scott left Prince Edward Island to attend St. Francis Xavier University, where earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Physical Education. Upon graduation, he worked as a school teacher. In 1997 Scott’s love for the sea lured him back to the salty air. When he returned to the coast, he purchased his own fishing outfit to fish for lobster and tuna.
Scott worked on various tuna fishing charters with his father and other captains, so it was a natural decision for Scott to begin charter fishing when he had his own boat and gear. This year will be Scott’s 18th year as a fishing guide and taking people out onto the waters of the Prince Edward Sound to fish for tuna and other deep sea fish.
In 2006 and 2007 Scott won the Canadian Tuna Cup Tournaments for landing the largest bluefin tuna during the competition. Again, in the 2010 Tuna Cup Tournament, the Scott Bruce Tuna charter won the award for the longest fight on a fish – over 5 hours! In 2008, world record holder Ken Fraser, joined Scott on the water out fishing as part of the tournament team. Ken holds the Guinness Book of World Records largest bluefin tuna ever which weighed 1496 pounds! The tournament was the first time Ken had been out tuna fishing in 30 years.
During the off-season, Scott stays involved with the industry and fishery by sitting on numerous boards, attending events like the Boston Seafood show and fishery workshops around the country.
